Maria Anita Mendes obtained her MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry in 1994 at the State University of Maringa. She also obtained her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1999 at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), after benefiting from visiting fellowships at the Thomson Laboratory and Odense University Denmark with Dr. Frants Lauritsen. She has extensive experience in mass spectrometry with modern separation methods, coupled with mass spectrometric detection, and with biochemical methodology. She was a post-doctoral research fellow at UNICAMP (new technologies for mass spectrometry analysis) and at the Paulista State University in Rio Claro, SP, Brazil (mass spectrometry characterization of wasp venom peptides) working in the Laboratory of Structural Biology and Zoochemistry ( LSBZ). At the present time she is an Alcoa Foundation Fellow at the University of Sao Paulo (CEPEMA-USP) (Integrating Modern Analytical Methodologies into the Development of Sustainable Technologies) Dr. Mendes has published more than 45 papers and is the co-author of three patents, two of which received the "Governor of the State of Sao Paulo" Patent Award.

Dr. Joanne Connolly is a Mass Spectrometrist with over 20 years experience covering a wide variety of instrument platforms. She has a desire to help advance scientific research by helping people to understand, investigate and adopt new technologies. Joanne completed a PhD in Mass Spectrometry at UMIST in Manchester in 2002, followed by a post-doctoral position at the National Institutes of Health, USA. Joanne joined Waters Corporation in 2007 where she managed the European proteomics applications team before moving to her current role as OMICS business development manager for the northern European region.

Henry M. Sobell completed his studies at Brooklyn Technical High School (19481952), Columbia College (1952-1956), and the University of Virginia School of Medicine (1956-1960). Instead of practicing clinical medicine, he then went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to join Professor Alexander Rich in the Department of Biology (1960-1965), where, as a Helen Hay Whitney Postdoctoral Fellow, he learned the technique of single crystal X-ray analysis. He then joined the Chemistry Department at the University of Rochester, having been subsequently jointly appointed to both the Chemistry and Molecular Biophysics departments (the latter at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry), becoming a full tenured Professor in both departments (1965-1993). He is now retired and living in the Adirondacks in New York, USA.
